Puckitt Dies Near Ringgold Sunday May 8th Thomas Barton Puckitt died at his home near Ringgold, May 8, 1927 at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 28 days, being the last member of a large family. Amid a host of surviving relatives and friends he was laid to rest in the Ringgold Cemetery near his chosen church. Funeral services were conducted by Elders Baker and Hamner. When a very yong man, Mr. Puckitt joined the Primitive Baptist Church and for 60 years remained a faithful consecrated member serving loyal as deacon for more than 40 years. He set a beautiful Christian example before his children as he gathered them around the fireside every evening for family worship. Mr. Puckitt lived in Union Parish until the Civil War came on and while not being in any hard fought battle, he served the four years of the conflict suffering many privations and hardships. Soon after the war closed, Mr. Puckitt married Miss Francis Chandler and moved to Lincoln Parish to make their home. Eight children were born to this union, six girls and two boys. About the year 1878 Mr. Puckitt with his family moved to Winn Parish and about a year later his wife died. In 1881 he married Mrs. Millie Green (nee Sledge) who died the year following. His third marriage was to Mrs. Lizzie Easley who survives him. He was the father of 12 children and enjoyed the profound respect of them and of his eight stepchildren. For more than 45 years Mr. Puckitt was a resident of Ward 4, Winn Parish, and served as school board member for that ward 8 years and as police juror 12 years. Four years ago Mr. Puckitt, who had been an invalid for the past fifteen years, moved to Ringgold to make his home with his youngest daughter, Mrs. Loyd Sledge. His surviving children are Mrs. Rosa Rudd, Italy, Texas; Mrs. Addie Barnes, Purden, Texas; Ms. Gordia Stinson, Dodson, La.; Mrs. Hettie Barrett, Atascadara, California; Joel D. Puckitt, Calvin, La.; Mrs. Susie Walker, Kingston, Oklahoma; Mrs. Ella Mixon, Dodson, La.; Mrs. Ada Sledge, Ringgold, La.
