Former Sheriff Of Winn Succumbs In New Mexico

Jackson J. Payne, 70, former sheriff of Winn Parish, died in Santa Fe, New
Mexico, Monday after a long illness.  Mr. Payne was born in Montgomery and
resided in Grant, Winn, and, Rapides Parishes.  He served as sheriff of Winn
Parish about the years 1912 to 1916.

Surviving are his widow and one son, Carroll T. Payne, of Albuquerque, N. M.;
one sister, Mrs. S. E. Richardson, Shreveport.  His remaining brothers and
sisters live throughout Louisiana.  Burial was made in Albuquerque, N. M.

Mr. Payne was an uncle of Lansing Payne, George Bell Payne, and Miss Willie
Gertrude Payne of Winnfield.
