All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: March 2, 1939 Winn Parish Enterprise Last Rites Held For Mrs. Thomas Quinalty Monday 80 Year Old Resident of This Parish Succumbs Mrs. Martha Miller Quinalty, pioneer resident of Winn Parish, died at her home in the Mt. Zion Community, February 26th. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, February 27, at the Mt. Zion Methodist Church. Rev. Lula Wardlow, Rev. J. A. Jones, and Rev. L. C. Smith conducted the services. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Mrs. Quinalty was a member of an old and prominent family of this parish. She was born at Gansville, Winn Parish, August 29th, 1859, was a daughter of Rev. H. F. Miller, pioneer Baptist minister, who helped to organize a number of Baptist Churches that were founded in Winn, Jackson, and Grant Parishes. He was one of the first pastors of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield. The deceased was affiliated with the Baptist Church in early life and after her marriage in 1886 to Thomas Quinalty, she moved to the Mt. Zion Community and became a member of the Methodist Church, and was a devoted member. She lived a consecrated Christian life until her death. She and her family have been identified with every progressive movement for the religious, civic and educational upbuilding of their community and parish. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Quinalty, and four children, two daughters, Mrs. Mary Varnado, Corlin, La.; Miss Lucy Quinalty, Montgomery, La.; two sons, J. T. Quinalty of the La. Agricultural Inspection Service, Baton Rouge; and J. W. Quinalty, former School Board member of this parish. Pallbearers were Dr. N. M. Brian, Supt. S. C. Shaw, W. P. Williams, J. Cheston Stevens, Ira Downs, Curtis Davison, J. T. Bolton, Ellis Teddlie, and Hilton Bolton.
