All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: January 25, 1929 Winnfield News-American James Walter Ray Succumbs To Long Illness Tuesday James Walter Ray, one of the pioneer citizens of this parish, died at his home here Tuesday night following a long illness. Mr. Ray was 76 years of age and was born in Alabama July 2, 1852. When a small boy he with his parents moved to Winn Parish where the deceased has resided until his death. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. In 1879 Mr. Ray and Miss Joanna Mitchell were married and to them nine children were born, all of whom survive him. The children are: J. E. Ray, Boyce; C. L. Ray, Calvin; Reece Ray, El Campa, Tex.; Mrs. Alam Suess, El Paso, Tex.; Mrs. Clara Jenkins, New Orleans; Mrs. Albert Maynard, Oxford, Miss.; S. S. Ray, Walter S. Ray, and Mrs. John Carr of Winnfield. He had seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock at the First Methodist Church and interment in the Winnfield Cemetery.
