L. Ray, Past Mayor Of Calvin, Buried May 30 Final rites for Claude L. Ray, 78, who died in a local hospital May 29, were conducted at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel at 3 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. E. D. Smith, pastor of the Calvin Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Masonic rites were conducted at the graveside with members of the Calvin Masonic Lodge serving as pallbearers. A retired merchant of Calvin, Mr. Ray was the first Mayor to serve the Village of Calvin. He was a member of the Calvin Baptist Church and of the Masonic Lodge. He had been in ill health a long time. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. C. L. Ray, who is now making her home in Jackson, Miss., with her daughter; one daughter, Mrs. E. L. Williamson, Jackson, Miss.; one son, Frank Ray, Shreveport; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. J. J. Carr, Alexandria, Mrs. Alton Hendrickson, New Orleans, Mrs. Albert Maynard, St. Petersburg, Fla., Mrs. Alma Suess, El Paso, Texas; one brother, Walter Shep Ray, Winnfield.
