All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: August 10, 1939 Winn Parish Enterprise Last Rites Are Held For Mrs. Joanna Ray Former Resident of Winnfield Succumbs At Rochelle Mrs. Joanna Mitchell Ray, 74, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. J. Carr, in Rochelle, Saturday, August 5, 1939, after a three months illness. The remains were brought to the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. John W. Wright, in Winnfield, Saturday afternoon and funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor, officiated. Interment followed in the Winnfield Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were Ray Jenkins, J. E. Ray, Jr., of Boyce, Lloyd Key, L. F. Morrison, Frank Ray, and Boyd Taylor of Alexandria. Mrs. Ray was born in Bienville Parish. At a young age she became a member of the Presbyterian Church by letter. The Ray family is one of the prominent old time settlers of Winn Parish. Since the death of her husband, the late Walter Ray, Mrs. Ray made her home with her children. Surviving are four daughters and four sons: Mrs. J. J. Carr, Rochelle; Mrs. Alma Suess, El Paso, Texas; Mrs. Albert Maynard, Oxford, Mass.; Mrs. Alton Henrickson, New Orleans; J. E. Ray, Sr., Alexandria; Claud Ray and Shep Ray, Calvin; and Reece Ray, Liberty, Texas. Twenty-two grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive.
