Rentz, 20 year old Sikes native, died Monday afternoon in a Winnfield hospital after being struck by a falling log while unloading a truck at Tremont Lumber Co., in Joyce. Rentz was reportedly unloading his truck, when two logs atop the truck shifted, with one striking him across the chest. He was rushed to a Winnfield hospital where he died about 4 p.m., almost two hours after the accident. Driving the truck for his brother, R. A. Rentz of Chatham, the youth had entered the plant and was at the rear of the truck at the unloading ramp when the log fell, according to witnesses. Rentz, a resident of Jonesboro, attended Sikes High School. Funeral services were tentatively scheduled sometime Thursday, pending the arrival of his mother from California. Burial will be in the Wright Cemetery, under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Avery Cheeks of Redlands, Calif.; his father, R. A. Rentz of Sikes; four brothers, R. A. Rentz of Chatham, Utah Rentz of Jonesboro, Roscoe Rentz of San Diego, Calif., and Joe Rentz of Redlands, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. August Nogy of Redlands, Calif.; Mrs. Doruther Smith of Jonesboro, and Mrs. M. A. Bustin of Sikes.
