Rickerson Funeral services for Mrs. Lease Bailey Rickerson, 86, were held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 31, 1980 at First United Methodist Church in Winnfield. Reverend Grayson B. Watson, pastor, officiated and was assisted by Dr. Calvin Phelps of First Baptist Church and Reverend Robert Gage of First Presbyterian Church. Interment was in Winnfield City Cemetery and all arrangements were under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Mrs. Rickerson died Saturday, August 30, at 9:34 a.m. at Winnfield General Hospital after a long illness. Lola Lease Bailey Rickerson was the only child of pioneer and well known Winn Parish and Winnfeld residents, Bryant W. Bailey and Penelope Dickerson Bailey. She was born on February 20, 1884 in Winnfield where she was graduated from high school, and she was the first Winn Parish graduate of Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans. She and her husband resided in the Bailey family home at 201 North St. John Street. Mrs. Rickerson was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Methodist Women's organizations, a member of the Methodist choir, and a former Sunday School teacher in her church. Her many civic and community activities include charter and very active membership in the Wake Up and Garden Club where she was instrumental in having Winnfield designated as a Bird Sanctuary, and a long time and active member of Readers Review Club. Survivors are her husband, Harmon Leary Rickerson, a number of cousins, and a host of friends. Pallbearers were L. H. Martin, Hewey Walker, Dudley P. Shell, George Harrison, Roy Rickerson, Holmes E. Harris, Don Walsh, and John G. Jackson. Honorary pallbearers were James G. Russell, Jr., Jerry Price, Larry Price, Maxwell T. Crowe, Tracy L. Harrell, Sr., W. J. Austin, and O. H. Panzigrau. Among those from out of town attending the funeral were Roy Rickerson of Alexandria; Mr. and Mrs. George Greenway (Mary Ella Carpenter, the daughter of Mrs. Celeste Brian Carpenter) of Biloxi, Mississippi, Mrs. Tina Carpenter Sullivan of Cleveland, Mississippi, Mrs. Alma Carpenter of Leland, Mississippi, Miss Myrtle Dickerson of Pineville, Mrs. Myrtle Long Carter of Winnfield, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Westerchil (the former Betty Carter), of Leesville; Mr. and Mrs. George Harrison of Teneha, Texas, Joe Kelly of Oak Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Glynn Wyatt of St. Maurice, and Mrs. Clarence Tannehill and Mrs. Henry (Norphlet) Powers, both of Urania.
