He was born at Joyce, La., on January 11, 1917, coming to Grant Parish as a boy with his parents, Mrs. Leona Roberts and the late Tom Roberts and lived in Hargis and Verda Communities and was 62 years of age at the time of his death. He was a 1936 graduate of Verda High School, a member of the Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge, World War II veteran, served in the Marine Corps and married to the former Anna Ruth Smith who survives him. Funeral services were conducted in the chapel of Welch Funeral Home, Baton Rouge, at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, 1979, with burial in Rest Haven Cemetery. Other than his wife, Mrs. Anna Ruth Roberts of Baton Rouge, he is survived by one son, Wayne Roberts, and granddaughter, Niki Roberts, both of Winnfield, three sisters, Mrs. Gloria Lasyone, Route 1, Atlanta, Mrs. Willie Dee Battershell, Kankakee, Ill., and Miss Thelma Roberts, Verda, La.; two brothers, Lyndal and Lamar Roberts, both of Denham Springs, his mother, Mrs. Leona Roberts of Verda, La., a host of other relatives and friends.
