All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: June 9, 1938 Winn Parish Enterprise Jonesboro Man Drowns In Saline Body is Recovered By Winnfield Scouts On Camp The body of Curtis Robinson, employee of the Jonesboro post office, who died from a heart attack while swimming was recovered from Saline Creek at Camp Mary Mims by members of the Winnfield Scouts who had gone to the camp Tuesday to spend the week. The body was recovered about 40 minutes after Robinson had disappeared while swimming. According to reports, Robinson and two other employees of the Jonesboro post office were fishing. Robinson was attempting to swim across the creek with his clothes on when he went under. His two companions saw him disappear, but were on the opposite side of the creek and could not get to him in time to save him. Robinson is survived by his wife, the former Miss Leoval Kirkland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Kirkland who at one time lived at Gansville and Winnfield. He is the nephew by marriage of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Martin of Winnfield. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. M. D. Robinson; and two sisters, Miss Lucille Robinson and Miss Arline Robinson, all of Jonesboro. Funeral services were held at the Jonesboro Baptist Church Wednesday with Rev. J. W. Buckner, pastor in charge. He was assisted by Rev. W. F. Robinson, pastor of Jonesboro Methodist Church, and Rev. G. A. Morgan, pastor Winnfield Methodist Church.
