Smith Held Sept. 24 Funeral services for Charlie S. Smith, 82, a retired farmer of Ward Nine, who died Monday, September 23, in a Winnfield hospital after a short illness, were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Big Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Hardy Beaubouef and the Rev. C. E. Arrington officiating. Burial was in the Jordan Hill Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home. Masonic graveside services were conducted. During his lifetime Mr. Smith represented his ward eight years as police juror on the parish body. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Georgetown Masonic Lodge F. & A. M. No. 298 and of the Shriners of Shreveport. He had been a member of Big Creek Baptist Church since early manhood. Survivors include four sons, Lloyd B. Smith of Dodson, Grady and Woody Smith of Winnfield, and Murray Smith of Baton Rouge; a daughter, Mrs. Otis Machen of Winnfield; a brother, James R. Smith of Winnfield; a sister, Mrs. Missouri Dawson of Monroe; 17 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Acting as pallbearers were grandsons and grandsons-in-law, John Smith, Frayne, Frank, and Glen Smith, M. W. Watson, Danny Ray Steele, Wes Steele, and Julius Barton.
