Sikes of Winn Succumbs James R. Sikes, 90, lifelong resident of Winn Parish, died at his home in Winnfield at 2 p.m. July 6, after a long illness. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. W. L. Holcomb, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Harmony Grove Cemetery at Gaars Mill. Active pallbearers were Jewel Nugent, Leo Sowers, Bluch Haddox, Ervin Price, George Walker, Fletcher Melton, C. E. Sherwood, Roy Miller and Bob Baker. Honorary pallbearers were members of Mr. Sikes' Sunday School class. Mr. Sikes, a native of Gaars Mill Community, was for 22 years a member of the Winn Parish School Board, and was a former president of that board. An outstanding farmer, he also served on the parish police jury and was at one time postmaster at Gaars Mill. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Woodmen of the World, and of the Baptist Church of which he was a deacon. Survivors include one son, D. E. Sikes, Winnfield; three daughters, Mrs. Dayton Hammons, Shreveport; Mrs. J. E. Dark and Miss Elga Sikes, Winnfield; a brother, Joe Sikes, Ervinvine; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
