C. Shaw, 52, of Shreveport, an employee of the Louisiana Oil Refining Company was instantly killed a few miles south of Arcadia on the Jonesboro- Arcadia road, when a tire of his car, which was traveling at a high rate of speed, blew out and turned it off the road over a high embankment. A passenger in the car, Verne Anderson, was also seriously injured, but after treatment at the Jonesboro hospital, was reported resting well at a Shreveport sanitarium. Mr. Shaw, who is a first cousin to Frank Shaw, local merchant, had bee in Winnfield inspecting an oil station which had been marked for dismantling. It was on his return trip to Shreveport that he was killed. The deceased was a native of the Couley Community, and was buried in the Couley church cemetery Monday morning with the Rev. B. F. Wallace of the Parkview Baptist Church of Shreveport officiating. Surviving the deceased are Mrs. Loreta Shaw, his widow; a stepson, H. C. Everett, a stepdaughter, Mrs. A. R. Service, a brother, Edward Shaw of St. Maurice, and a sister, Mrs. Jamie Kelly, Couley.
