Winnfield Man Dies In Wreck

James H. Sanders, 23, of Brown Street, Winnfield, was killed and two other
local men were injured in a two-car accident about 8:30 p.m., Sunday, December
19, just outside the Winnfield City limits on Hwy. 167 North.

Injured were a passenger in Sanders' pickup, Davis Tuggle, 24, of Route 1, Box
541, Winnfield, and the driver of the other car, Jake E. Hendricks, 24, of
Route 1, Box 546-A, Winnfield.

All three men were taken to Winnfield General Hospital, where Sanders died
about 1 a.m. Monday.  The other two men were listed in serious condition
Monday in Charity Hospital in New Orleans.

State Police officials said that the southbound Hendricks vehicle lost control
as it rounded a curve and slid across the center line of the highway.  The
Hendricks car was struck broadside by the northbound Sanders pickup.

Loss of control of the Hendricks car was attributed to rain and a slick
surface on the highway.
