A native of Winn Parish, he was a retired school teacher and was the principal of Readheimer High School for 28 years. He was elected Natchitoches Parish representative in 1948. His interest in education made him a leader in the development of the present Adult Education Program in the state. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ottice Dark Sanders of Chestnut; two sons, Benny Sanders of Hackberry and Dana Sanders of Natchitoches; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Weaver of Covington; one brother, James Sanders of Baton Rouge; four sisters, Mrs. Ross Dark of Columbia, Miss Ruby Sanders of Baton Rouge, Mrs. William Machen of Jonesboro, and Mrs. Pauline Cox of Baton Rouge, and 11 grandchildren. Services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Briarwood Baptist Church near Readheimer with Revs. J. W. Kennedy, Sammie Giddens, and Dwight St. Andre officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
