All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: January 2, 1980 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Dr. Schonlau, Winn Native, Succumbs Memorial services for Dr. James Schonlau, 66, of 1815 Pargoud Blvd., Monroe, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 29, 1979 in Mulhearn Funeral Home Chapel in Monroe with the Rev. Harold Hughens officiating. Dr. Schonlau died December 25 in Loma Linda Hospital in Loma Linda, California. He was a native of Winnfield, born May 22, 1913, and was a graduate of LSU Medical School in New Orleans. After receiving training at Charity Hospital in Shreveport, and at the Lakey Clinic in Boston, Massachusetts, he began practicing surgery in Monroe in 1947. Dr. Schonlau was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and the American Surgeons. Schonlau was a World War II fighter pilot with the 20th Air Force and received the Distinguished Flying Cross with two oak leaf clusters and the Air medal with five oak leaf clusters, while holding the rank of Lt. Colonel. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Ten Eyck Schonlau of Monroe; four daughters, Dr. Elizabeth Wallace Schonlau of New Orleans, Mrs. Robert Greisinger of Redlands, Calif., Mrs. Martha Simon of Monroe, and Mrs. Andre LaGarde of Metairie; a sister, Mrs. Marjorie Russell of Minden; and two grandchildren. The family requests memorials be made to the Heart Fund or a church or charity.
