G. Wooten lease located at 36-10-1-E, three-fourths of a mile southwest of Tullos, exploded and blew him fifty yards through the treating plant. His body was mangled almost beyond recognition, and death resulted instantly. He was employed at the plant. One of the employees of the company had passed along and talked with Mr. Scroggins just a few minutes previous to the explosion. The plant was working in good order at the time. It is supposed that the pop valve was stopped up and when the steam was cut off from the treating plant that the added pressure caused the explosion. Workmen at a distance of two miles heard the explosion. Mr. Windham, an employee of the firm and some employees of the gas firm nearby were the first men to get to the scene of the explosion. The body of the deceased was taken to Hixson Brothers undertaking parlors Monday night where it was prepared for burial. The remains were sent to Anacoco near Leesville, La., Tuesday evening where interment was made in the family cemetery. Mr. Scoggins was born and reared in Anacoco and lived there until three years ago when he moved to the Rio Grande Valley and engaged in farming. He moved to Tullos in February of this year and worked in the oil fields until his death. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Essie Scoggins and one son, Edgar Lee, Jr., aged two years. (Note: Surname spelled both Scroggins and Scoggins in obit - GED)
