Last Rites Held Here For John Ara Shaw Thursday

Last rites for John Ara Shaw, 78, who died in an Alexandria hospital, 
Wednesday, Oct. 12, were held at the Winnfield First Methodist Church Thursday
at 2 p.m., with the Rev. A. W. Townsend and Rev. L. L. Booth officiating. 
Burial was in the Couley Cemetery under direction of Hixson Funeral Home.

Acting as pallbearers were nephews: Clifford and Percy Hallmark, Frank Shaw,
Jr., Bill and Julian Shaw, and Reed Grigsby.

Born in Grant Parish, Mr. Shaw spent most of his lifetime in Winn.  He married
Miss Ida Hallmark, who passed away about a year ago.  For the past 12 years he
has resided with his son, Rev. Clyde Shaw, who has pastored churches in a
number of towns.  He was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Rev. Clyde Shaw and Rayford Shaw of Alexandria; one
grandson; two sisters, Mrs. Earl Grigsby and Miss Pearl Shaw, Baton Rouge;
three brothers, Hargis Shaw, Shreveport, Ernest Shaw, Montgomery, and Henry L.
Shaw, Winnfield.
