Sharkey Funeral Held Here Monday Ben M. Sharkey, 71, native of Scotin, Nebraska, died suddenly at his home in Winnfield Saturday night, Oct. 13. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Winnfield First Baptist Church with the pastor, Dr. W. L. Holcomb officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Alwin Stokes. Burial was in Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers. Mr. Sharkey was married to Miss Geneva Allen of Winnfield November 5, 1908. In the same year he was employed by the Crossett Lumber Company, Crossett, Arkansas, as chief boiler maker. He was later promoted to Superintendent of Mills and Electric Power Plant, and master mechanic of the A. D. and N. Railroad. He was retired in 1914, after which time he and his wife returned to Winnfield. He was a member of the Winnfield First Baptist Church, a veteran of the Spanish-American War, and 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Geneva Sharkey; one daughter, Mrs. C. H. Akin of Monroe; one sister, Mrs. T. J. Drewett of Mansfield; two nieces, Mrs. L. V. Hebert and Miss Amy Sue Hebert. Active pallbearers were Ray McEachern, Jack Beckley, J. W. Allen, Warren W. Allen, Clarence Bates, and Jewell Maxey. Honorary pallbearers were J. M. Hyde, B. W. Bailey, Oscar Garriss, B. W. Bradford, Manton Wood, D. C. Allen, Leonard Allen, Hasson Morris, Mack L. Branch, John Steen, W. R. Horton, Dr. A. W. Radescich, Howard Ryder, Ben Jackson, and Troy Smith. Out of town people attending the funeral were Mrs. Hazel Arnold, W. S. Arnold, Levi Wilcoxen, Dick Lloyd, Ed Lawson, Peter Watzek, James Armstrong, Lonnie Gibbs, Roy Mitchum, William Norman, Ed Berry, and Mr. and Mrs. Jewel Noble, all of Crossett, Arkansas; E. C. Aiken, and Mrs. Mattie Aiken, Fort Smith, Arkansas; Mrs. Louis Holiman, Coquille, Oregon.
