L. Shaw, here. He was one of the early pioneers of this parish, coming here from Coosa County, Alabama, when he was 13 years old. As a young man he played a conspicuous part in the history of Grand and Winn Parishes. During the trying days of reconstruction and carpetbag rule Mr. Shaw helped to reclaim the state government from the carpetbaggers, renegades and ignorant negroes. He was one of the few survivors of the famous Colfax riots. Also, it is claimed that Mr. Shaw was the last surviving member of the citizens' committee that rounded up the bandit West Clan that terrorized central Louisiana during the early seventies, and summarily executed the entire West outfit near the present town of Atlanta. Mr. Shaw was 78 years old. He leaves his widow and seven children: Frank L. Shaw and C. E. Shaw, leading merchants of Winnfield; H. J. and J. A. Shaw, also of Winnfield; J. H. Shaw, Shreveport, and two daughters, Mrs. R. E. Grigsby and Miss Pearl Shaw, of Alexandria. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. Caraway, pastor, and Rev. Stokes of the Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery.
