Shaw, Sr., Former Sheriff, Dies Sunday A.M. Frank L. Shaw, 82 year old retired merchant and civic leader of Winnfield and Winn Parish died at his residence here Sunday morning at eight thirty o'clock following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held in the First Methodist Church here Monday afternoon at three o'clock under the direction of Hixson's Funeral Home and burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. Luther L. Booth, pastor of the First Methodist Church and Rev. P. M. Carraway, former pastor, now of New Orleans. A native of Winn Parish, Mr. Shaw was born November 22, 1871, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Shaw, a pioneer family of this section. In his early manhood he served as deputy sheriff under J. H. Crawford and in 1904 was elected sheriff, which office he held through 1912. Following his retirement from the active political field, Mr. Shaw engaged in the mercantile business, opening in the same building now occupied by Shaw's, owned and managed by his son, Frank L. Shaw, Jr. The deceased was twice married, the first time to Miss Ellen Crawford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Crawford, who died in 1916. To this union were born two children, Mrs. W. T. McElroy of Shreveport and James Eugene Shaw of Vallejo, Calif. The second marriage was to Miss Allie Mae Neal of Montgomery and to them were born three children, one daughter who died at an early age, and two sons, Frank L. Shaw, Jr., and Robert B. Shaw. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Allie Mae Shaw; three sons, Frank Shaw of Winnfield, Robert B. Shaw of New Orleans, and James E. Shaw of Vallejo, Calif.; four brothers, J. H. Shaw of Shreveport, Ernest Shaw of Montgomery, Henry Shaw of Winnfield, and J. A. Shaw of Forest Hill, and two sisters, Mrs. Earl T. Grigsby of Baton Rouge, and Miss Pearl Shaw also of Baton Rouge. Active pallbearers included John J. Peters, Jr., J. W. Allen, Kelly Peterson, Joe Bevill, Shirley Jackson, and Sam Brian. Honorary pallbearers were John Emerson, Joe Emerson, W. W. Allen, J. M. Hyde, Judge Cas Moss, W. O. Averett, Dr. F. C. Wren, P. K. Abel, B. W. Bailey, John J. Peters, Sr., J. R. Heard, W. E. Heard, Harry Fuller, Judge R. W.
