Shaw On December the 27th, the spirit of Jefferson Y. Shaw went home to be with his Lord. The body was laid to rest December 38, in the Pine Grove Cemetery by the Rev. J. F. Reid, in the absence of the pastor, the Rev. James Strozier. Jefferson Y. Shaw was born in Alabama in 1844 and moved with his parents to Montgomery, Louisiana when a child. He enlisted in the Infantry of the army of the Confederacy and saw two years of service. He was considered a brave and fearless soldier by his comrades of the Gray. Soon after the close of the war, he married Sarah Luther, who was his faithful companion in life until the time of her death which occurred in 1904. His early life was spent in Grant Parish, where his children were born. In 1888 he moved with his family to Couley, Winn Parish, and stayed there until his death. He is survived by two sons and one daughter: L. C. Shaw of Shreveport, J. E. Shaw of Couley, and Mrs. M. Kelly of Couley. Since the death of his wife, he had made his home with his daughter. Early in life he united with the Methodist Church and was a faithful member all his life. The ministers of all faiths found a warm welcome at his home. He was loved by his church and pastor and died in their fellowship and love.
