Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church in Montgomery with the Rev. S. J. Sylvester officiating. Burial was in Mars Hill Cemetery near Verda. Mr. Shelton was a retired mechanic. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Cora Shelton, Montgomery; several sons, Charles Shelton, Von Shelton, Alvin Shelton, and Sidney Shelton, Jr., all of Longview, Texas; Eugene Shelton, Vivian, David Shelton, Texarkana, Tex., and Thomas Shelton, Montgomery; four daughters, Mrs. Betty Anderson, Grayson, Mrs. Jessie Baldbrook and Mrs. Christine Lasyone, both of Longview, Tex., and Mrs. Lucille Evans, Marshall, Tex.; two brothers, Lee Shelton, Myrtle Point, Ore., and Rufus Shelton, Montgomery; five sisters, Mrs. Addie Harris, Mrs. Cleola Davis, and Mrs. Elvie Jowers, all of Montogmery; Mrs. Pearl Chelette, Colfax, and Mrs. Jewell Treadwell, Buras; 29 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren.
