Shelton, Former Calvin Mayor, Dies Jesse W. Shelton, 71, of Calvin, died Saturday, January 12, 1974, in a local hospital after a long illness. A member of the Calvin Baptist Church, he was a barber and had served as mayor of Calvin for two terms as the first mayor, justice of the peace for 24 years in Ward 8 of Winn Parish. Mr. Shelton was also a member of Calvin Lodge. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Southern Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Charles Haley, the Rev. E. B. Barton, and the Rev. John Roberts officiating. Burial was in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Pearl M. Shelton of Calvin; two sons, Jack Shelton of Winnfield and Joe Edd Shelton of Tannehill; one daughter, Mrs. Kerry S. Boone of Shreveport; three brothers, Monroe Shelton, John T. Shelton, and Joseph Shelton, all of Winnfield; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Philan and Mrs. Ruth Hughes, both of Shreveport; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Pallbearers included Bob Carpenter, Cliff Wilkinson, Joe Shelton, Jimmy Shelton, Lonnie Philan, Howard Hughes, Glen Shelton, and Bob Hughes. Mayo, West Monroe; Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Jackson, Monroe; Mrs. Mamie Carter and Clinton Blake, Jonesboro; Mr. and Mrs. Truett Holcomb of Alexandria; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Aswell Shelton, Yoca City, Mississippi. Also, Mr. and Mrs. Glynn R. Shelton, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Shelton, Mrs. Dana Barnes, Miss Inez Boone, Mrs. Zelma Houston of Shreveport. Mrs. V. L.
