F. Shell, City Resident 50 Years Buried June 30 D. F. Shell, 75, longtime Winnfield resident and retired post office employee, died in his sleep at his home here early Friday, June 29. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church in Winnfield Saturday, June 30, with the Rev. R. H. Staples in charge, assisted by Rev. Fred S. Flurry. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home. Pallbearers were John Glynn Jackson, James Russell, Jr., J. W. Wroten, Ranel Brady, Newton Forrest, and J. D. Holmes, Jr. A native of Jackson Parish, he had lived in Winnfield for 50 years. Prior to that he taught school in the parish a number of years, and was a rural mail carrier from 1914 to 1920, serving the Winnfield-Hudson, Dodson area. In 1920 he became postal clerk at Winnfield. He retired from the post in 1941 due to ill health. A faithful church worker, Mr. Shell was a member of the First Methodist Church. He taught a men's Bible class from 1926 until the time of his death. He was a member of the official board for many years, in recent years serving as honorary member of the board, and was a member of the Eastern Star Masonic Lodge. He attended high school at Dodson and continued his education at Louisiana State University. Deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Della Peters Shell; three sons, Dudley, Denton, and Dennis of Winnfield; two daughters, Doris Shell of Jennings and Dorothy Shell of Winnsboro; two brothers, J. J. Shell of West Monroe and the Rev. J. W. Shell of Uniontown, Pa.; one sister, Miss Alice Shell of Winnsboro; and six grandchildren.
