Aplastic Anemia Is Fatal To John Shell, Winnfield

John Shell, 15 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Denton Shell of Winnfield, died
Tuesday, June 15, 1965 in an Alexandria hospital following an illness of about
a year which had been diagnosed October 3, 1964, as aplastic anemia.

The youth was born and reared in Winnfield and was active in church and
scouting.  He was a member of the First Methodist Church and of Scout Troop
70, and was in the Order of Arrow and had reached the rank of Life Scout.  A
tenth grader in football, he had gone out for football before his illness was
discovered.

Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. in the Methodist Church with the
pastor, Rev. George Ross officiating.  Burial was in the Garden of Memories
Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home.

Acting as pallbearers were John Jackson, Newton Forrest, Tracy Harrel, Jr.,
James Russell, E. H. Farr, Ranel Brady, Buddy Stewart, and Marvin Carraway.

Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Denton Shell, one sister, Elise Shell;
his grandmothers, Mrs. J. C. King and Mrs. D. F. Shell, all of Winnfield.
