Shelton Succumbs; Buried At Sardis, Mar. 28 Resident of Algiers For Past 13 Years, Dies At Pioneer, La. Marion Tillman Shelton, 50, a native of Pioneer, La., died suddenly from a heart attack Tuesday, March 26, 1940, while on a visit with relatives at Pioneer, La. The remains were brought to the home of the deceased's sister, Mrs. Hasson Morris, here Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist Church Thursday morning at 11 o'clock, with the pastor, Rev. H. H. McBride, and the Rev. LeRoy Shelton in charge. Interment was in the Sardis Cemetery. Born September 10, 1879, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Shelton of Sardis, Mr. Marion Shelton was reared and educated in Winn Parish. He was married to Miss Betty Moore and to this union were born 11 children, eight of whom survive. Mr. Shelton was a member of the Algiers Baptist Church. Until five years ago he was employed by the Hill Stores of Algiers, at which time he retired from business on account of his health. Before leaving Winnfield Mr. Shelton was connected with the Grand Leader. Surviving are his widow, four sons and four daughters, L. R., M. T., Jr., and Preston Shelton, of Algiers, La.; R. L. of Shreveport; Mrs. Weir (Ellen) Givens, Lecompte; Mrs. T. A. (Ethel) Wroten, Waukeegan, Ill.; Mrs. Allan (Laura) Barnes, New Orleans; Mrs. Henry (Ruth) Dognibene, New Orleans, La.; and fifteen grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Riley Shelton of Charleston, S. C.; and seven sisters, Mrs. Hasson Morris and Mrs. H. C. Eagles of Winnfield; Mrs. E. B. Barton and Mrs. J. H. Keyes, Sardis; Mrs. A. B. Hughes, Montgomery; Mrs. C. R. Mixon, Pineville; and Mrs. H. L. Preston, Foxboro, Mass.
