Shelton, 64, retired, died Saturday, January 25, in a Clearwater, Fla., hospital. He was born and reared six miles south of Winnfield off the Atlanta highway and attended Sardis Elementary School and graduated from the Winnfield High School in about 1917. Last rites will be conducted at the Sardis Cemetery Saturday afternoon, February 1. The cremated remains are expected to arrive from Houston, Texas at about 12 noon. The Rev. Mr. McAfie, pastor of an Episcopal Church in Houston will officiated at the last rites. Following his graduation from high school here Mr. Shelton attended the Louisiana State University and then entered the armed forces. Later he attended business college and for 30 years was employed by Coppers Corporation in Charleston, S. C., before his retirement, when he and his wife settled in Port Richey, Fla. He was a member of the Masonic and Shriner organizations and of the Episcopal Church in Florida. Surviving are his wife, the former Grace Niehneymer; one son, Dr. Dewitt Marion Shelton, two grandchildren, Steve and Martha, all of Houston, Texas; four sisters, Mrs. E. B. Barton, Sr., of Sardis, Mrs. C. R. Mixon, Mrs. Olive Eagles, and Mrs. Hasson Morris, all of Winnfield.
