All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** (From the September 22, 1949, Winn Parish Enterprise) John Shelton Laid To Rest In Sardis Cemetery Funeral services for John Shelton, 75, of the Five Forks community, who died Saturday, September 17, 1949, after an illness of two weeks in a Winnfield hospital, were held Monday at 11 a.m., at the Sardis Baptist Church. Rev. W. C. Bounds, Rev. Ernest Evans and Rev. F. M. Shows officiated. Burial was in the Sardis cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home. The deceased, a farmer, was born and had lived in and around Winnfield all his life. He was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mattie Evans Shelton; three sons, Julius, Aubrey and Clarence, all of Antioch; three daughters, Mrs. Myrtis Hyde, Antioch; Mrs. Edward Versher, Verda; Mrs. Robert Hallmark, Montgomery; one step-daughter, Mrs. D. F. Smart, Winnfield; one brother, Joe Shelton, Winnfield; one half- brother, Marshall Evans, Alexandria; one half-sister, Mrs. Lottie Bunch, Winnfield, and 24 grandchildren. (Submitted by John W.
