All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: Maynard Shetley Fatally Injured In Fall Monday The death of Maynard "Mike" Shetley, 70, Monday, has been attributed to a fall by medical authorities, the Winn Parish Coroner's Office reports. The report holds that Mr. Shetley apparently struck his head and a massive brain hemorrhage developed when he fell as he inspected a neighbor's roof. He had gone to the roof at the R. O. Mills residence on Maple Street to check a leak, sometime after 8 a.m. Monday. Mrs. Houston Gates (Mr. Mills' daughter) discovered Mr. Shetley was lying across the roof cone about 10 a.m., but death had already occurred, authorities said. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the First Methodist Church with the Rev. R. H. Staples officiating. Interment was in the Goldonna Cemetery under direction of Hixson Funeral Home. Mr. Shetley was a native of Fredricktown, Mo., a former manager of the local state employment office in Winnfield, and for 16 years was hoist operator at the Carey Salt Company here. Besides his widow survivors include two sons, Ray Shetley, Buras; Maynard Shetley, Lake Charles; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Robinson, Houston, Tex.; Mrs. Bill Labat, Edinburgh, Scotland; two sisters, Mrs. Nita Hewitt, Oakdale, Mrs. Lee Townsend, Winnfield; 10 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Pallbearers were L. L. Brewton, Sr., Elton Brewton, Harper Terrill, Sanford Jordan, D. L. Hoffman, E. E. Prince, Keith Everett, and C. R. Brown.
