Sherwood, Winn Pioneer, Buried April 14 At the age of 72, Rev. W. D. Sherwood died Saturday morning, April 13 at his home in Winnfield and funeral services were conducted at Jerusalem Church near Winnfield Sunday afternoon with interment at the Jerusalem Cemetery. Rev. H. J. Mott, pastor of Laurel Heights Baptist Church, and Rev. H. H. McBride, pastor of the First Baptist Church, had charge of the services. Pallbearers were Clifford Melton, Fletcher Melton, C. C. Carter, Izy Billings, Dan Guin, and Louis Moffett. Born in Catahoula Parish January 6, 1874, Rev. Sherwood moved to Winn Parish near Winnfield almost forty years ago. With his wife, the former Miss Mary Hand, he reared ten children and was a leading farmer in his community as well as a beloved minister of the Baptist Faith in Grant and Winn Parishes. Remembered for his devotion to his family and faithful service to his community and church, the deceased leaves the following survivors: Mrs. Mary Sherwood, wife; sons Elmo Sherwood, New Orleans; Lannice Sherwood, Long Beach, Calif.; Leck Sherwood, Santa Monica, Calif.; Aylon Sherwood and C. E. Sherwood, Winnfield; daughters Ms. John Hyde, Pollock; Mrs. Lee Deen, Deville, La.; and Mrs. Conrad Nugent, Dry Prong, La.
