Sherwood Funeral Services, Jerusalem Sunday Beloved Baptist Minister Succumbs at His Home Saturday, A. M. Funeral services for the Rev. William D. Sherwood, who died Saturday morning at his home here, were held Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the Jerusalem Church followed by interment in the church cemetery. The rites were conducted by the Rev. H. H. McBride, pastor of the First Baptist Church and the Rev. H. J. Mott, pastor of the Laurel Heights Baptist Church of Winnfield. One of the best beloved ministers of this section, Rev. Sherwood had been in failing health for the past several years and suffered a stroke about a week ago at his home here, to which he and his wife, the former Miss Polly Hand, moved five weeks ago from their home in the Sardis Community. The couple had resided in the Sardis Community since their marriage in 1900. He engaged in farming along with his ministerial work that took him into every community of Winn and adjoining parishes. Among the churches he served during his more than 30 years as a pastor and minister were Sardis, Pleasant Hill, Corinth, Williana, Fairfield, Cypress Creek, Zion, Zion Hill, and others. Born in Catahoula Parish, January 6, 1874, he moved with his parents when quite young to Texas where they remained for only a short time before coming to the Sardis Community in Winn Parish. Surviving him are his widow, five sons, C. E. Sherwood, Alan Sherwood, and Leck B. Sherwood, Lanis Sherwood (note, only four sons listed); three daughters, Mrs. John Hyde, Pollock, Mrs. Lee Dean, Alexandria, and Mrs. Conrad Nugent, Dry Prong; and one sister, Mrs. Addie Anders, Tioga. Pallbearers were Louis Moffett, W. I. Billings, R. D. Gunn, Fletcher Melton, Clifford Melton, and C. C. Parker.
