F. M. Shows Conducted July 12 Funeral services for Rev. Francis Melburn Shows, 70, well known Winn Parish Baptist minister, were held at the Winnfield First Baptist church Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. H. J. Mott, Rev. H. H. McBride, Rev. F. M. York, and Rev. W. C. Bounds officiating. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Rev. Shows, who served faithfully as pastor of several rural Baptist churches in Winn Parish for many years, died in an Alexandria hospital at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, following a brief illness. Rev. Shows was born in Jackson Parish February 28, 1880, and had made his home in Winn Parish since 1929. He was ordained to the Baptist ministry in 1915 and received his ministerial education at Louisiana College. An active minister for 35 years, Rev. Shows retired last year because of ill health. At the time of his death he was a member of Sardis Baptist Church. During his 35 years in the ministry Rev. Shows had served as pastor of the following Baptist churches in Winn, Jackson, Sabine, and Bienville Parishes: Hebron, Mt. Zion, Shady Grove, Cypress Creek, Sugartown, Magnolia, Carolina, Friendship, Womack, Thigpen, Center Point, Calvin, and Sardis. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary Walker Shows of Bernstein Street, Winnfield; one son, L. C. Shows of Mansfield; three brothers, J. C. Shows and Marshall Shows of Jonesboro and J. T. Shows of Winnfield; and one sister, Mrs. George Holland of Jonesboro. Pallbearers were Troy Smith, Walter Cathey, F. O. Lattier, Arlin Bice, G. H. Walker, and H. A. Cogley.
