All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: January 1, 1959 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Mrs. Sarah Sutton Is Buried Dec. 19 At St. Maurice Mrs. Sarah Sutton, 92 years of age, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Steve Morgan, in Ferriday, Wednesday, December 17, following three days of serious illness. She had been in failing health for several months. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. December 19 in the First Baptist Church of Ferriday of which she was the oldest member. Services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Shirley Briggs and concluded at the graveside at 1 p.m. in the family cemetery at St. Maurice, Winn Parish. Mrs. Sutton was born in Union County, Ark., May 11, 1866, the daughter of the late William Johnson Hughes and Levison Hughes. She moved to St. Maurice with her father in February, 1890. Mrs. Sutton was married to the late J. A. "Toad" Sutton, December 18, 1890, and spent her entire married life in Winn and Grant Parishes. After the death of her husband in Atlanta, La., in 1930, she made her home with her oldest daughter, who lives in Ferriday. She is survived by one brother, J. G. Hughes of Shreveport; two daughters, Mrs. Steve Morgan, Ferriday, and Mrs. Troy L. McMurry of Shreveport; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
