Robert Shumate Dies, Is Buried At Mt. Zion Sept. 30

Robert T. Shumate, age 82 years, 27 days, a resident of the Wheeling-Mt. Zion
Community, passed away at the Huey P. Long Hospital in Pineville, September
29, 1960.

Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. September 30, at the Union Hill
Baptist Church, with Rev. A. E. Presley, Rev. D. S. Durand, and Rev. J. A.
Allen officiating.  Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of
Hixson Funeral Home.

Acting as pallbearers were Alvin Estes, Irvin Shaw, Ollie Bishop, Johnnie
Bishop, Melvin Ray Horn, and Mack McGinty.

Mr. Shumate was a life long resident of Winn Parish and a member of the Union
Hill Baptist Church which he faithfully attended until about a year ago when
he became ill.  He will be missed by his many friends in the community.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Zettie Shumate; one son, R. W. Shumate of
Carthage, Texas; five daughters, Mrs. Matt Longino of Montgomery, Mrs. Huey
Johnson of Montgomery, Mrs. John C. Longino of St. Landry, Mrs. Louis Longino
of Pineville, and Mrs. Otho Lovell of Tioga; one sister, Mrs. Iona
Graham of Shreveport.

He also leaves 33 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
