Mrs. M. Shumate Is Buried At Mt. Zion Sunday

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary P. Shumate, 90, former resident of Winn Parish,
were held in Shreveport Sunday afternoon with Rev. C. W. Culp, pastor of
Queensborough Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by Rev. George A. Pearce,
Jr., pastor of Broadmoor Methodist Church.  Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery
near Montgomery.  Mrs. Shumate died Saturday at the home of a son, J. O.
Shumate, following a long illness.  She was the widow of the late Thomas P.
Shumate.

Pallbearers were nephews of Mrs. Shumate: Elmer Hughes, Wilmer Hughes, Leo
Harlan, Herbert Harlan, Wilmer Harlan, and Harrison Barnett.

Surviving are two sons, J. O. Shumate of Shreveport and R. T. Shumate of
Montgomery; a daughter, Mrs. Ina L. Graham of Shreveport; one sister, Mrs. H.
H. McCain of Shreveport; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Shumate has lived in Shreveport about 15 years but spent most of her life
in Winn Parish.
