Winn Native Dies Of Heart Attack In California

M. T. Shumate, 74 year old laundry manager in San Diego, Calif., and native of
Winn Parish, died in San Diego following a stroke, on Tuesday, July 21.

Mr. Shumate was the brother of Mrs. R. D. Cantwell of Winnfield.  Funeral
services were scheduled in Cleveland, Miss.  The date of the services was not
known.

Mr. Shumate was born and reared in the Mount Zion Community in Winn Parish,
the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Shumate.  He married the former Miss
Lillian McCain, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. M. McCain of St. Maurice.

He entered the laundry business in Shreveport and went to California in 1930
where he assumed leadership of a chain of laundries.

He is survived by his wife, of San Diego; one daughter, Mrs. Harry Ward of
Cleveland, Miss.; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Payne of Baton Rouge and Mrs. R. D.
Cantwell of Winnfield; and one grandson, Harry Mack Ward.

Mr. Shumate was a member of the Methodist Church, the Masonic order, and was a
Shriner.
