R. Sikes of Gaars Mill Funeral Services Held on Tuesday Afternoon at Harmony Grove Mrs. Carolyn Underwood Sikes, age 72, wife of J. R. Sikes, former school board member from Ward 7, died at her home Monday morning following an apoplectic stroke suffered Sunday night. Although her declining years made it impossible for her to be active outside her home, Mrs. Sikes had enjoyed better than usual health until the past two years, during which period she was partially disabled. However, the stroke Sunday night was sudden and caused her death on Monday morning. She was a member of the Harmony Grove Baptist Church, from where funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock conducted by the Rev. O. L. Hughes, pastor and former pastor, respectively, of the deceased. Interment was in the Harmony Grove Church Cemetery. Mrs. Sikes was born in Winn Parish and was a member of the Underwood family of that section. The large funeral cortege of neighbors and friends attested to the wide influence she had wielded during her useful life. Surviving her are her husband, J. R. Sikes, who for more than 20 years served on the Winn Parish School Board representing Ward 7, one son, Dennis E. Sikes, superintendent of schools of Winn Parish for the past 12 years, (daughters) Miss Elga Sikes, teacher of home economics in the Gaars Mill high school, Mrs. Dayton Hammons and Mrs. J. E. Dark of Gaars Mill; one brother, Ivy Underwood of Sikes; two sisters, Mrs. S. M. Riser, Shreveport, and Mrs. Jackson White, Sikes. Pallbearers were Dayton Hammons, J. E. Dark, Dan Hammons, John D.
