Simmons Succumbs Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 11, 1984, at Dodson Baptist Church for Mamie Mixon Simmons. Dr. Calvin Phelps conducted the services assisted by Rev. Doug White. Mrs. Simmons, widow of Winn Parish educator K. C. Simmons, died Saturday, June 9, 1984 in Lincoln General Hospital Saturday, June 9, 1984 in Lincoln General Hospital after a brief illness. A retired teacher, Mrs. Simmons received the B. A. and M. A. degrees from Northwestern State University. Her teaching career spanned 37 years in the Winn Parish school system. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, professional teachers sorority, which she had served as state chaplain. Mrs. Simmons was listed in Outstanding Elementary Teachers of American. She was a member of Dodson Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and directed Vacation Bible School for over 20 years. Until recently, she was Director of Missions for the Winn Baptist Association. She served Spicer- Wallace Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution as Regent and in other offices. Mrs. Simmons was also a member of the Palestine Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Simmons, 74, was the daughter of Winn Parish pioneers Alfred Lee and Ida Wasson Mixon. She is survived by two brothers, Jack Mixon, Bernice, and C. D. Mixon, Goldsboro, North Carolina, and four sisters, Mrs. Bertha M. Stovall, Dodson, Mrs. Clarice M. Patrick, Oil City, Mrs. Corinne M. Crawford, Winnfield, and Mrs. Mary Ruth M. Keckler, Lake Charles. Her sons, Kermit M. Simmons, Winnfield, and Harry David Simmons, Shreveport, and six grandchildren, also survive her. She is missed by her company of many years, Ms Oneter Powell of Dodson.
