Simmons, 65, well known retired postal clerk in the Shreveport post office, died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in a Winnfield hospital following a brief illness. He was stricken while attending the homecoming ceremonies at Friendship. Mr. Simmons, since his retirement from the post office, worked for the All State Investment Corp., and was with the firm at the time of his death. He started his postal career on Dec. 6, 1923 and retired June 30, 1961. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Osborn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gerald Trussell, pastor of Southside Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Forest Park. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ophelia Barton Simmons; a son, Shirley Raymond Simmons of Shreveport; five brothers, P. C. and M. S. Simmons of Shreveport; K. C. Simmons of Dodson; Guy Simmons of Winnfield; Vinson Simmons of West Monroe; three sisters, Mrs. John Martin of Monroe, Mrs. E. C. Gates and Mrs. Albert Crain, both of Dodson; and two grandsons.
