All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: October 17, 1957 Winn Parish Enterprise-News American Last Rites Held For Mrs. Hugh Simmons Oct. 12 Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Smith Simmons, widow of the late Mr. Hugh Simmons of Sikes, were held Saturday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Friendship Baptist Church. Officiating were the Rev. Willie James, pastor, and the Rev. Mr. Clovis Cole, former pastor. Burial was in the Church cemetery. Mrs. Simmons passed away at a Winnfield hospital Thursday, Oct. 10. She was a life-long resident of the Sikes community and was a member of the Friendship Church. Grandsons acting as pallbearers were T. A. Gates, Jr., Earl Hughie Simmons, Devane Simmons, C. D. Simmons, Jean Simmons, and Frank Simmons. The deceased leaves three sons: W. D. "Debs" Simmons of Winnfield; E. B. and I. P. Simmons of Sikes; three daughters, Mrs. T. A. Gates, of Sikes; Mrs. Albert Stanley, of Springdale, Ark., and Mrs. B. M. Carr, Monroe; 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Z. Z. Peppers of Sikes and one brother, J. R. Smith of West Monroe.
