Simmons, 65, of Joyce, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, October 31, 1966 in the East Winnfield Baptist Church with the pastor, Rev. W. A. Wimbs, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. J. L. Holt. Burial was in the Hurricane Grove Cemetery near Sikes under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Masonic rites were conducted at the grave. Pallbearers were deacons of the East Winnfield Baptist Church and honorary pallbearers were members of his Sunday School class. Mr. Simmons, a retired employee of the Parish of Winn, died Saturday in a Monroe hospital after a short illness. He was a native of Sikes and spent the earlier part of his life as a farmer. He was a member and deacon of the East Winnfield Baptist Church, a 32nd degree Mason, and for 21 years served as Clerk of the Shady Grove Baptist Association, retiring from that position last year. Survivors are his widow; three sons, Lendal Simmons of Lone Star, Texas; Kermit Simmons of Lubbock, Texas; and Benny Simmons of Midland, Texas; a daughter, Mrs. Charles Tomlinson of Slidell; three brothers, Homer Simmons of Joyce, Morris Simmons of Monroe, and J. V. Simmons of Dallas, Texas; five sisters, Mrs. O. B. Martin of Corpus Christi, Texas, Mrs. Audie Brand of Beaumont, Texas, Mrs. E. E. Prince of Shreveport, Mrs. John Brister and Mrs. Aaron Creel, both of Joyce, and 12 grandchildren.
