Funeral Services At Friendship For J. H. Simmons

Funeral services were held for J. H. Simmons of Sikes this week, following his
death Saturday, August 22.  He died at the age of 85 years, nine months, and
17 days, following a brief illness.

Mr. Simmons was a retired farmer, having made his home in the Sikes Community
all of his adult life.  He was born in Caldwell Parish.

Funeral services were at the Friendship Baptist Church, of which he was a
member, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Clovis Cole.  Burial was in the
Friendship Cemetery under direction of Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife, the former Mary Smith; three sons, I. P.
Simmons of Sikes, E. B. Simmons of Sikes, and W. D. Simmons of Winnfield;
three daughters, Mrs. T. A. Gates of Sikes, Mrs. Albert Stanley of Springdale,
Ark., and Miss Mary Simmons of Monroe; 15 grandchildren and nine great
grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Troy Lee Kelly, Rushel Kelly, Thomas Adams, Frank Simmons,
Fred Tucker, and Alvin Thames.
