All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: January 30, 1947 Winn Parish Enterprise Funeral Services For Sam Smart Held at Pineville Sam Smart, 74, a resident of Winnfield for more than 15 years, died at a Pineville hospital, Wednesday, January 29, after an illness of several months. Funeral services for the deceased were held at an Alexandria funeral home Thursday afternoon, January 30, at 4:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. H. H. McBride, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield. Mr. Smart had been a member of the First Baptist Church for several years. Mr. Smart was born in Coloroni, Italy, on February 1, 1873, and immigrated to the United States in 1884, at the age of 11 years. He arrived at the port of New Orleans September 1, 1884, and moved to Winnfield in the early 1930s. The deceased, although not a citizen of the United States, was well known in Winnfield. He had contemplated taking out citizenship papers for several years but didn't because of the war. Interment was in the Pineville cemetery under direction of an Alexandria funeral home. Mr. Smart is survived by his widow and four daughters.
