Floyd Smith, Sr., Succumbs; Rites At Pleasant Hill

Funeral services for Floyd W. Smith, Sr., of Winnfield, 66, father of
Pineville Mayor Floyd W. Smith, Jr., were held at 3 p.m. Monday in the
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church near Winnfield with Rev. Willis Russell and Rev.
Alson Jeter officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home of
Winnfield.

In addition to Mayor Smith, survivors include his wife, Mrs. Carmel Long
Smith; a daughter, Mrs. Juanita Carter of Bossier City; three brothers, R. A.
Smith of Baton Rouge, Herbert Smith of Newellton, and T. C. Smith of Buckner,
Ark.; four sisters, Mrs. Hattie Muller of Baton Rouge, Mrs. Merline Welborn of
Baton Rouge, Mrs. Catherine McNeil of Pineville, and Mrs. Lloyd Brown of
Newellton, and five grandchildren.

Smith died Sunday, January 5, 1969 in a local nursing home after a long
illness.
