Smith Age 74, of Atlanta Dies Sat. Night Following an illness of six weeks, Mrs. J. R. Smith of Atlanta, 74 years old, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. O. Holland, Saturday night, June 8, at twelve o'clock. Mrs. Smith has lived in Atlanta and adjoining towns for many years and has made many friends by her pleasing personality, and inspired many of the younger set as well as those of mature years. Mrs. Smith came to Louisiana with her parents Mr. and Mrs. John Townsend when a small girl. She was married in 1881 to J. R. Smith. She was a member of the Methodist Protestant Church and took an active part in church work until her health faildd. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. P. M. Caraway of New Orleans, at Summerfield near Colfax, at 3:30 Monday afternoon. Mrs. Smith was the mother twelve children and is survived by eight: Mrs. E. L. Bufkin of Elizabeth; Mrs. K. A. Thomas and Mrs. C. O. Holland of Atlanta; J. F. Smith of Pineville; J. L. Smith of Delhi; J. G. and H. B. Smith of Houston, Texas; and L. M. Smith of Verda. Besides her children, Mrs. Smith leaves 47 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, four brothers and one sister.
