All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: December 30, 1938 Winn Parish Enterprise or Winnfield News-American Mrs. Frances Faith Smith Succumbs to Long Illness on Thursday One of Pioneer Citizens of Parish Funeral Services Friday Mrs. Frances Faith Smith, past the halfway mark of her 89th year, died at her home here Thursday evening of last week about 7:30 o'clock, following a lingering illness. Mrs. Smith is a member of one of the pioneer families of this section, having migrated from Georgia with her parents in 1857, locating in the Gaars Mill Community, where her parents, James and Elizabeth Faith, accepted the responsibilities of citizen ship and lent their cooperation and support to the building of their community. In 1871, she was married to William Austin Smith, and in 1896 moved to Winnfield with her family of four boys, a daughter having married in the meantime. After coming to Winnfield Mr. Smith engaged in the newspaper business and served as postmaster for a number of years. Mr. Smith died in 1921. She was a member of the Methodist church, with which she affiliated early in life. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at three o'clock at the First Methodist Church with the Rev. G. A. Morgan, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Interment was made in the Winnfield Cemetery. Mrs. Smith is survived by three sons, George Smith and Eric Smith of Winnfield, and Jay Smith of St. Louis, Mo., and a grandson, Grady Caldwell of Mansfield, a granddaughter, Mrs. Belva Belin of Alexandria, three other grandchildren of St. Louis, Mo., and a stepson, Joel G. Smith of Dodson.
