All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: September 22, 1950 Winn Parish Enterprise or Winnfield News-American Final Rites For John Luther Smith Conducted At Sikes Funeral services for John Luther Smith, 61, a lifelong resident of Winn Parish, were held at Sardis Baptist Church, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 19, with the Rev. W. C. Bounds officiating, assisted by Rev. E. B. Barton, Jr. Burial was in Sardis Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Mr. Smith, for many years a farmer in the Sardis Community, died in a New Orleans hospital September 15 after a lengthy illness. He was born near Tannehill January 12, 1889, and was reared in Winn Parish. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lillie Mathews Smith; one son, James Lee Smith of Sedalia, Mo.; one daughter, Golda Mae Taylor of Alexandria; one sister, Mrs. R. C. Sanders of Dodson; one brother, Joe P. Smith of Corning, Calif.; and three grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by one son and one daughter. Pallbearers were Virgil Sanders, James Sanders, Louis Parson, Wayne Smith, Hardy Smith, Jr., and Faith Langley.
