All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: May 29, 1936 Winnfield News-American Gertrude Smith, 18, Instantly Killed In Auto Accident Two Other Occupants Of Car Sustain Painful Injuries Funeral Services for Miss Gertrude Smith, age 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darius [Smith], who was instantly killed in an automobile accident last Thursday night, were held Saturday afternoon at three o'clock at Old Corinth cemetery conducted by Rev. John L. Dodge of Hodge. Miss Smith in company with O. R. Lillie, Jr. of Alexandria and Miss Gussie Fay Berry of Winnfield were going toward Tullos when the car in making the curve at the Winn parish end of the curve just beyond the Castor bridge left the road and plunged over the embankment strewing wreckage along a 150 yard path. Miss Smith's body crushed and broken was thrown some distance into a clump of willow trees, causing instant death. Lillie and Miss Berry sustained painful injuries, the former was taken to a clinic at Olla and Miss Berry was brought to her home here. They are reported recovering. Miss Smith is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Darius Smith, four sisters and two brothers.
