Smith Dies July 23 In Houston, Texas Herbert C. Smith of Houston died Thursday, July 23, 1970, following a lengthy illness. A native of Minden, Mr. Smith was reared in Shreveport but had made his home in Houston for 28 years. The deceased was a geophysicist and consultant geologist, and a member of St. Luke's Methodist Church in Houston. Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Friday in the First United Methodist Church in Winnfield with Rev. Stone Caraway officiating, assisted by Rev. J. C. Skinner. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home. Survivors include his widow, the former Ella Lee Jackson; one son, Herbert C. Smith, Jr., of Los Angeles, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Alice Lou Morris of Houston; two grandchildren; two brothers, Otis Smith of Shreveport and Floyd Smith of Shreveport. Mr. Smith was the brother in law of Shirley Jackson, Mrs. Maxwell Crowe, Mrs. Harold DeBray, of Winnfield, A. D. Jackson of Baton Rouge, and Mrs. E. N. Jackson of Monroe.
